Self-Management Skills:

Recognize and Apply One's Perferred Style of Learning

In week three of our discussion in IT Trends & Issues, I took a learning assessment to see how my learning style best applies with an online learning environment.  My results allowed me to recognize my preferred style of learning, and from learning styles and strategies provided with my results, I was able to apply my style of learning through discussion questions to help me succeed in the online course.

Articulate One's Beliefs

The Autoethnography assignment was an ongoing assignment throughout the course of HIAD 7444. This assignment was particularly interesting for me because it prompted me to investigate my own experience of multicultural development and awareness. The first installment of this assignment called for me to think about my beliefs and values. Each week, I began to add more details that shaped my social and cultural identities. By the end of the semester, I was able to articulate my thoughts through a reflective paper.  Attached is the final installment of the assignment.

Apply What One Has Learned to Subsequent Experiences

In LEAD 7500, Adult Learning and Leadership, my final exam caused me to reflect on the process of learning and the perspective of the adult learner—myself. Through this assignment, I had to reflect on my learning experiences as an adult, including informal education, as well as informal and self-directed learning. Paired with the various texts throughout the course, I used the concepts and theories discussed in class to apply my learning to subsequent experiences.

Demonstrate Individual Capacity to Create Results

The Office of Career Services has recently teamed up with the Center of Center for Academic Retention and Enrichment Services (CARES) to pilot a new advising program that will pair CARES students with a career services professional and provide them with one-on-one career advising over the course of the semester. This semester I have two CARES students that I meet with once a week. Each week I have tailored a presentation that meets the needs of their goals professionally and academically. At the end of each session, I provide the student with a questionnaire to see if they have benefited from the material discussed. In some cases, I have to create my own assessment that addresses a specific topic covered during that session. This program has challenged and improved my ability to create results. Attached are the assessments created for the various topics I have covered for each student.
