Interpersonal Relationships:

Promote Dialogue Among People With Multiple Viewpoints

The process of debate provides a platform for multiple viewpoints to be expressed formally. In HIAD 7444, Multiculturalism on College Campuses, I had to debate a topic with one of my peers. During this assignment, I had to meet with the opposing team to discuss our viewpoint on the subject. After extensive preparation, I formally debated in front of my classmates. Throughout the debate, I was given an opportunity to stimulate discussion with the opposing team and audience.  The dialogue shared fostered free and lively exchange of ideas and promoted understanding on the issue deliberated.

Contribute To Collaborative Decision Making

I had the opportunity to work on one of my first case studies in HIAD 7443, College Environments. For my final exam, I had to examine a university and determine how the division of student affairs can best contribute to establishing an environment and campus community that is open and accepting to all students and constituents.  As a member on the taskforce, my peers and I had to collaborate with making this possible. Our work together identified the issues in the case, and in turn, we were able to successfully produce a proposal to ignite change at Mid-South University.

Solve Problems in Relationships

One activity that allowed me to master this competency is an activity I conducted in HIAD 7444. As discussion leader for week 13, I lead my peers in a case study activity that explored and examined their understanding of ethics and decision making. By engaging in conversation about relevant ethical dilemmas, my peers and I were able to successfully solve problems related to the cases. Attached are the case studies that were explored during the activity.

Take Another Person's Perspective

In HIAD 7444, Multiculturalism on College Campuses, I was assigned to visit The National Civil Rights Museum. Through interactive exhibits, I was able to take the perspectives of prominent leaders during that era such as, the Freedom Riders, Student Nonviolent Cordoning Committee, Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. My time spent engaging in their experiences has broadened my perspective and has impacted the way I view the world today. Attached is the PowerPoint I presented to my peers about my experience at the museum.

Work With Someone on Technology Based Project

Last spring, the office of Career Services shifted to a new online software called TigerLink. TigerLink allows students and alumni to access the office’s services at their convenience. To ensure that students and alumni successfully transitioned to the software, I worked closely with my supervisor to create a student guide that provided users with the features offered and detailed intructions on how to access them. This student guide is a document that is currently displayed throughout departments on campus and is handed out to all students who visit the Career Services office.
